Iason Ligas is a very particular kind of person — and a very particular kind of winemaker.

With a long family history in viticulture and Greek-French roots, he settled five years ago in Krania, at the foothills of Mount Olympus.

His vineyards lie in Rapsani, where the three varieties of the PDO zone — Stavroto, Krasato, and Xinomavro — are once again cultivated in the traditional way that had almost disappeared, on the mountain’s slopes.

It is the revival of the Alpine-style Viticulture of Olympus.

He set up his winery in the old school of Krania, a building from the early 20th century. Iason restored the space while fully preserving its architectural identity: stone, wood, proportions, the feeling of the original structure.

The school, which later served as a local center of the Resistance and was burned during the Occupation, has become once again a world that hums — the VOÏ Winery.

This is the true story of a winemaker of Olympus and his wine — a vin de roches (a wine born from stone).
